Wise Words | When you are describing,
A shape, or sound, or tint;
Don't state the matter plainly,
But put it in a hint;
And learn to look at all things,
With a sort of mental squint.

| I can't list favorite books, but favorite authors is another matter.
Right now, I'm gorging myself on Tad Williams and James Barclay.

| My favorite fantasy authors include Tamora Pierce, Ursula Le Guin, Diana Wynne Jones, and more. Actually, fantasy is my all-time favorite genre. | |

Tamora Pierce is good. I really enjoyed the Heart of the Lioness series, but Keldreys series wasn't that great IMO. Diana Wynne Jones wrote Christomanci, didn't she? I feel as though I've outgrown them, when I read through them the plots and writing both seem really childish. It's a shame, since I remember them as great books.

| Yeah, the first series is always best, though I still enjoy all of Tamora Pierce's books.
That's Diana Wynne Jones. I actually began reading her Castle series because Miyazaki created an animated film based off Howl's Moving Castle. The same with Ursula Le Guin's Earthsea series (though his son took over the project because he was busy with another).
We tend to outgrow things.

| Favourite authors for me would have to be Stephen King (the only books i've ever read which have actually scared me), Ken Follett (Pillars of the Earth - the epitome of amazing), George Orwell (1984 is scary good), Koushun Takami (Battle Royale, a unique book of epic proportions), J.R.R Tolkien (fairly obvious), Mark Haddon (for some reason his books have really impressed me) and Cody McFadyen (fairly new crime fiction author, his books seem to stand out among the rest to me).
An old favourite of mine is Darren Shan, his City Trilogy captivated me, but I haven't read any of his work in a while...

| I really enjoy Michael Crichton (I was heartbroken when he died), Isamu Fukui (a relatively new author, still fairly young), J.R.R. Tolkein, and John Steinbeck. I used to read Cornelia Funke's books, too, but they seem lately to have become rather youthful. | |
