Well it depends how they became a ghost. If they died in a violent accident, then you could have them appear with their wounds still over their body, that's always a good way. If they died and come back as a prophet or forboding device, you could have them arrive as an old man and slowly lose their wrinkles as they talk.

You could also try having the ghost transparent or solid-looking, posses some supernatural abilities... depending on how you want the story to progress. A vengeful spirit with supernatural abilities would freak some people out, especially if the one person who can see the ghost can't tell the ghost apart from other people (looks solid) but other people cannot see the ghost.
